I Called This One

I remember as a pre-teen in the 80′s and early 90′s there were these really cool things called “slap bracelets.” I know I had quite the collection.  They were made of metal covered with fabric. They came straight but then you could “slap” them to curl on your wrist or arm. They were sold in some stores but I more vividly remember them at the Sheboygan County Fair. Then all of a sudden, they were impossible to find.

Well, they were pulled from circulation because the fabric could wear away and the underlying metal could slit your wrist.  Probably a rather large design flaw.

Lately I started seeing them again – return of the 80′s. I was utterly surprised that they were any safer then when I was growing up.  Well, can you imagine – some of recently been recalled! This is no surprise.

Recently, Toysmith recalled their animal snap bracelets due to laceration hazard. Ouch! I’m sure they aren’t the only company with a recall out there.  I understand the novelty of these bracelets – but some things were meant to stay in the 80′s.
