5 ways to pack a healthy school lunch

School 2014-15 is upon us. One of the questions in our house is “Can we pack our lunches this year?” The cafeteria at our school does a good job in providing a variety of healthy fare for our children. Hence, our boys are often “buyers”. But, when the boys do pack - strategy is involved!

The KidWich

  • 2 slices whole wheat bread
  • 1-2 slices deli turkey meat
  • 1 slice Colby jack cheese
  • Shredded carrots
  • Leafy greens
  • Lite mayonnaise and/or mustard (optional)

On the 2 slices of bread, have your child assemble the remaining ingredients. Take a favorite cookie cutter and assist your child with using it on the sandwich.

For a child up to age 4, use a smaller cookie cutter for a smaller serving size. Optional: Provide the fun shredded carrots on the side of their sandwich as a side!
